How to Build Your Meditation Foundation

What are you supposed to do during meditation?

We’ve all heard about the “amazing benefits of meditation”. Many of us, seeking those benefits, enthusiastically try it out – and are dismayed to find that we “can’t stop thinking”.

Did you know

Successful meditation does not require you to shut off your mind – it’s actually impossible to do so!

Over the course of my meditation journey, I found great benefit in learning from and about different types of meditators and meditations. I found guidance that helped me build a practice foundation.

Further, I found it beneficial to take a meta view of meditation, which is why I included learning about psychological wellbeing. This style of learning gave me confidence in myself and knowledge that there is no “right” way to meditate. There’s just meditation, the practice.

Meditation paths are deeply personal

Just as there is no “right” way to meditate, there is also no one-size-fits-all foundation upon which everyone can build their own meditation practice. You have to be willing to try different things, remain openminded and patient, and trust that you will find what works for you.

I’m confident that you will navigate your path in a way that calls to you, but these initial sources created my foundation and I hope that they are helpful to yours too.
